Do

This helps to keep your newborn safe.

Feed your newborn on demand.

Your newborn often wakes up crying for a feed.

When your newborn cries for a feed, feed him immediately.

Give your newborn some tummy time when he is awake.

Put your newborn on his tummy on a flat surface for a few minutes once in a while.

This helps to straighten out and strengthen your newborn’s back and neck muscles.

Play soft music in your newborn’s room.

This helps to soothe or calm your newborn down when he is cranky.

Play with your newborn.

For example, Peek A Boo

This helps to bond with your newborn.

Clean your newborn’s gums.

Dip a soft and clean cloth in warm water.

Clean your newborn’s mouth gently.

Do not

Ignore your newborn’s umbilical cord.

The umbilical cord is cut soon after childbirth, it takes time to shrink and fall off.

Clean the umbilical cord area with water. This helps to let it dry faster.

Stick to sponge baths as much as possible and keep the area clean.

Delay your newborn’s diaper changes.

When your newborn stays in a soiled diaper, he might get a diaper rash.

Change your newborn’s diaper when it is smelly.

Put cute blankets and pillows in your newborn’s cot.

Clear blankets and pillows in your newborn’s cot.

This helps to prevent suffocating.

Take your newborn to crowded places.

Your newborn’s immunity is low.

Your newborn might be exposed to bacteria and viruses in the air.

Overdress your newborn.

Your newborn’s body is yet to develop heat regulation.

Your newborn might get overheated which leads to fever, dehydration and vomiting.
