4 Best Parks To Visit In Tampines With Kids

If you are familiar with Tampines, you might know that Tampines is named after the Tempinis trees (“ironwood trees” in Malay) that used to occupy the entire Tampines area. Tampines was once full of trees, such that it was also termed as the residential Orchard Road in Singapore.

Being a place that used to be full of trees, Tampines offers a wide selection of outdoor parks and nature. At a glance, Tampines contains at least 2 major parks and 7 recreational/community parks that you can bring your child. Previously, we explored the benefits of outdoor play here. In this article, we talk about the parks near Genesis Childcare 1989 at our Tampines centre. Not only will your child reap the benefits of being outdoors, you will also enjoy these parks too!

Sun Plaza Park

Sun Plaza Park is a major park located at Tampines Avenue 7 and 9. It is a huge park – about 9.6 hectares.

That is the size of about 900 4 Room HDB flats!

Being such a huge park, there are many things that you can do at Sun Plaza Park.

There is an Amphitheatre, a Beach Ball court, a Woodball course and a Sense Discovery Garden! At the Sense Discovery Garden, your child can engage in 10 stations of interactive play. These include textured walls, talking tubes, chimes, a tumbler and organic texture walk, an entry sign with recessed wordings and symbols, a ladder wall, sliding beads and herbal wall. Your child will experience interesting sounds and other fascinating sensations. From sensory play experiences, your child will also build up a sense of creativity, inquisitiveness, and exploration.

Besides the Sense Discovery Garden, there are at least 2 playgrounds at Sun Plaza Park. One of these playgrounds is Fantasy Land Playground. Fun characters from fairy tales and nursery rhymes are installed to create a feeling of fantasy through the play features. Features include a 3m tall giant kangaroo with a tunnel for children to go through its body, huge elephant and crocodile slides and see-saws incorporating familiar cartoon characters.

Outdoor play has many benefits for children. When children engage in outdoor play, they will be exposed to the sun. Sun exposure is essential for our bodies to make Vitamin D, which strengthens children’s bones.

For children at Genesis Childcare 1989, outdoor play is an essential part of childcare activities. Located 1 minute away from our Tampines centre is a playground. Another 5 minutes away, you can find more greenery or a small park. With our Tampines centre close to nature, our teachers and educarers apply these physical resources efficiently, setting the stage to create an enjoyable learning experience that supports your child's discovery.

Tampines Eco Green

Another park that you can explore is Tampines Eco Green.

This park is even bigger than the Sun Plaza Park! It is the size of 36 hectares, which is even bigger than 3 Vivocities put together! Tampines Eco Green resembles a savannah with marshlands, secondary forests and freshwater ponds.

This park is home to over 75 species of birds, 20 species of dragonflies, 35 species of butterflies and 32 species of spiders. This ecologically conscious park includes features like an eco-toilet, vegetated swales, bird hides and green roofs on all the shelters.

It is a wonderful place to go bird-watching!

The park offers three trails, namely Diversity Trail, Forest Trail and Marsh Trail, that weave through the secondary forests. Along those trails, you can come into close proximity with birds to watch them waddle in the ponds. (source: Nparks.gov.sg)

As this park is so big, we recommend that you bring your child over several weekends in the day to enjoy the place slowly. Or you can bring your child when you wish to spend extended time with your child during childcare leave, to build a foundation with your child.

One unique thing about this park is that there are no playgrounds. In fact, the footpath is carpeted with grass rather than concrete or gravel. Such footpaths create an enjoyable experience of trail walking and discovery for your child. Going one round of the park covers 3km, with a walking time of between 1.5 to 2 hours. As the footpaths are rather flat, the trails are not difficult to complete.

To get to Tampines Eco Garden, you can walk 20 minutes from Sun Plaza Park. If you drive you can park at Block 408, Tampines Ave 9.

Tampines North Park

This park is located along Tampines Ave 7, next to Block 451. It is near Genesis Childcare Centre at Block 433.

Compared to Tampines ECO Green and Sun Plaza Park, It is a small park for the community, especially those living in Blocks 4xx. Despite being smaller, it has many large trees. This makes the park shaded, breezy and good for exercise such as jogging. Tampines North Park has decent fitness corners, 2 kids' play areas and park benches for you to sit down and relax.

There is even a basketball court if you want to practice basketball with your child and improve his motor skills.

If you have very young children, you can bring your children to Tampines North Park. It feels cozy and comfortable.
