As a new parent, it can be overwhelming to drop your baby at an infant care centre for the first time. There is a lot to juggle (both emotionally and physically), and having to pack and prepare for your child’s day at the infant care can be a tad bit stressful.
That being said, don’t worry too much as it all becomes part of your normal routine over time. There are certain things that you can prepare ahead of time to make sure that your mornings aren’t too crazy, while making sure that your baby has what he/she needs during the day!
Having an everyday diaper bag is a great way to store all your child’s items that need to be brought to our infant care centre on a daily basis.
The items to bring daily include:
3 milk bottles or 3 milk bottles of breast milk (for breast-fed infants)
2 bibs
1 blanket
1 pillow
1 bolster
Socks
Mattress cover
1 bath towel
1 face towel
1 comb
3 sets of clean clothing
Recycle bag (for soiled clothing)
This long list of items may seem intimidating but it’s all worth it for the comfort of your child!
Another tip would be to try practicing how long you will take to get everything ready before the actual day of having to drop him/her off at the centre. Knowing how long you take each time to prepare will definitely give you more assurance and less anxiety.
Other than the items to be brought on a daily basis, there are also a few things that we require parents to prepare. These will be kept in the centre for your child’s daily consumption.
The items include:
Formula milk (1 tin)
Diapers (1 packet)
Nappy rash cream (1 tube)
Wet wipes (1 packet)
Baby oil (1 bottle)
Parents will be notified if any replenishment is needed.
To make sure your child’s belongings don’t go missing at the center, write your child’s name on all their clothing and personal belongings so the infant care center can return them to you quickly.
All individual mattress covers, pillows, blankets, and protective bumpers should be brought home for washing over the weekend, for hygiene purposes and prevent baby from getting sick. For more tips to boost your child's immunity, read this article too.
The night before
Make sure to pack everything you need into your diaper bag the night before your child is sent to the infant care. Packing it early will ensure you’re not rushing around in the morning to get ready and will give you some last minute precious time with your baby.
And now that you are prepped with this list, you are also ready to drop your baby off at their first big adventure!
