How to Potty Train Your Child Without Power Struggles?

In this article, I will be sharing suggestions on how to potty train your child without power struggles.

1. Give your child potty training tools and an environment to try.

Buy and introduce a potty to your child.

Explain to your child that he can use the potty to pee and poop.

Place the potty in the bathroom.

Read potty training books from the library and watch videos online with your child. This will help your child understand that all children eventually learn to use the potty.

Give your child books and toys he can play with while he sits on the potty to help him relax.

Give your child a baby doll that he can “teach” to use the potty.

Throw away the diapers and pull-ups completely and put your child in underwear.

Your child will feel the discomfort of accidents more with using underwear rather than diapers.

Wondering how to help your Toddler Development?" Here are some ways you can try out!

2. Start potty training if your child wants to.

The transition from diapers or pull-ups to using the potty is one of the few things children have absolute control over.

Once your child is ready and interested in potty training, it should be easy.

Your child will tell you when he has to use the potty or has dirty diapers or pull-ups.

Your child has to learn to pull his pants up and down to use the potty independently.

3. Create a potty training action plan for your child.

Keep your child bare bottom.

This helps your child to be aware of the need to pee and poop.

Stay calm and expect your child might pee or poo on the floor.

Take your child to the potty frequently.

Set your timer for every hour or two and take your child to the potty.

Keep your child in underwear and have him sit frequently enough that he might pee or poop.

Use the potty after regular parts of the day.

For example, wake up in the morning, before nap and bedtime, after meals.

Offer lots of water and fluids.

If your child struggles with using the potty, help him along by offering plenty of water in a fun sippy cup.

This will encourage him to drink often throughout the daytime.

Discover “healthy eating” to help your child poo easily.

4. Encourage and support your child.

Praise your child when he uses the potty to pee and poop especially for the first time.

For example, a high-five or hug with “You did it!”.

Encourage your child if he didn’t manage to pee or poo in his potty in time. Let’s try again next time.

For example, pee or poo on the floor or his underwear.

5. Share your child’s progress with your spouse during bonding time after mealtime.

For example, your child

- pee or poo in the potty today.

- wash his hands with soap after potty without me asking.

I hope all these suggestions will help you to potty train your child without power struggles.
