How to Get a Teething Baby to Sleep: A Guide for Parents

Teething is never fun or easy for either parent or baby.

In this article, I will be sharing suggestions on how to get a teething baby to sleep.

How to get a teething baby to sleep?

A baby struggles to fall and stay asleep when he is teething.

This not only affects your baby’s sleep but also affects your family’s sleep.

Your baby cries loudly in the middle of sleep and you spot new teeth formed.

He may be extra clingy and fussy to you and refuse to sleep alone.

Suggestions:

1. Offer cold teething rings to your baby to play and chew on.

This helps to soothe and cool his tender gums.

How to make teething rings cold?

Place teething rings in the freezer.

2. Apply cooling gel on your baby’s gums.

How to choose cooling gel?

- Non-medicated.

- Make sure it is suitable for babies three months or older.

3. Give your baby a pain-relieving medicine.

Check with your pediatrician to see if over-the-counter pain medicine can help relieve your baby’s pain and discomfort.

Choose the baby version of the medicines instead of adults.

Follow all instructions correctly, including your pediatrician’s.

Give the medicine to your baby an hour before his sleep.

4. Give your baby a few minutes to settle back to sleep.

Your baby experiences discomfort and pains during teething.

This helps him to soothe back to sleep in the future.

5. Dissolve a soothing tablet in water and offer it to your baby as a drink.

6. Give your baby a stuffed animal pacifier.

Your baby might be able to sleep through the night with a pacifier until he can’t’ find it in the middle of the night.

It is easier for your baby to find in the middle of the night.

It is less likely to get lost as your baby holds it in his arms during sleep.

7. Give your baby teething biscuits if he starts to eat solids.

This helps to relieve the pressure your baby might feel in his gums as he chews on.

8. Offer frozen or cold food to your baby through a mesh feeder or popsicle molds.

Your baby can suck on it while soothing himself.

10. Take turns with your partner tag-team your baby’s teething wake-ups.

You take the night shift and your husband takes the morning shift.

Remind each other that this is temporary, support, and help one another.

Hold your baby in your arms and comfort him.

Help your baby back to his old sleeping routine after teething has passed.

I hope all these suggestions will help you to get your teething baby to sleep.
