In this article, I will be sharing toys that will grow with the toddler, challenge him, and nurture his overall development such as thinking, physical, language and social-emotional skills.

Use in a variety of ways.
The toddler loves to take apart, put back together, pull out, put in, add on, and build up.
This sparks the toddler’s imagination and helps him develop problem-solving and logical thinking skills.
Wooden blocks, Lego, cups, and toys for sand and water play.
Grow with the toddler.
Look for toys that can be fun at different developmental stages.
For example, small plastic animals are fun for a young toddler who may make a shoebox house for them, while an older toddler can use them to act out a story he makes up.
Plastic toy animals like bath toy ducks and action figures, dollhouses, toy trains and cars (and other vehicles), stuffed animals and dolls like Elmo.
Encourage exploration and problem-solving.
Look for toys that can give the toddler a chance to figure something out on his own or with a little coaching from the parent.
This helps to develop fine motor skills with his hands and fingers.
Puzzles, shape-sorting carriers, blocks, nesting blocks or cups and art materials like clay, paint, crayons or play-dough.
Spark the toddler’s imagination.
The toddler can use it to develop and act out stories.
Pretend play builds language and literacy skills and problem-solving skills.
Dress-up clothing, blocks, toy food and plastic plates, action figures, stuffed animals and dolls, trains and trucks, dollhouses, toy tools, and “real-life” accessories such as a wrapping paper tube “fire hose” for your little firefighter.
Pull along wagon
Give the toddler the chance to play with toys that look like the real thing.
The toddler is eager to grow up or copy you.
This helps the toddler to solve problems and develop fine motor skills.
Plastic dishes and food, toy keys, toy phone, dress-up clothes, musical instruments, child-size brooms, mops, brushes and dustpans
Books, magnetic alphabet letters, and art supplies like markers, crayons, and fingerpaints help your child develop early writing and reading skills.

Encourage the toddler to be active.
Balls of different colours or sizes, balloons, plastic bowling sets, child-size basketball hoops, wagons to fill and pull gardening tools.
Play with the toddler.
This encourages counting, matching, memory skills, listening skills and following rules.
This also teaches the toddler to be a gracious winner and how to cope with losing.
Let the toddler chooses the toy or the item which he likes to play with.
Wipes or toy caterpillar.
A box of tissue or stacking rings.
Toy duck or spatula.
Toy remote control or TV remote control.
You might find out that your toddler might choose real items compared to toy items.
Hence, you might not need to buy expensive toys for your toddler.
