Here's What to Do When Your Child Won't Drink Milk

In this article, I will be sharing suggestions to handle your baby or child not drinking milk.

Suggestions to handle your baby not drinking milk

1. Feed your baby between longer intervals.

Feed after your baby woke up, not to feed him to sleep.

This helps your baby learn to self soothe.

When your baby grows up, he will take fewer naps, you will have fewer feeding sessions.

If your baby isn’t drinking milk, see if you can stretch the times between the feedings so he is hungrier when the next feeding comes.

Your baby might need more time and space in his tummy between feedings to drink milk.

2. Check how much milk your baby should be getting.

In your baby’s first few days and weeks, you were on a race to get him to gain weight. Indeed, your baby grows the most in his first few months.

There is also a stage where your baby won't need to gain quite as much weight.

Your baby is more interested in hitting other milestones.

For example, your baby would rather spend his time learning to crawl than eating.

When your baby eats solid food, he is also gaining the calories he used to only get from drinking milk.

Check with your pediatrician to see how much milk your baby should be drinking.

3. Offer your baby milk before solids or much later.

Your baby will finish the solids, even after having drunk the milk, whereas he might not drink as much after having eaten solids.

It can be too much to drink milk and eat solids in one sitting.

Give your baby milk an hour after eating solids when you know he has the appetite for it.

4. Add milk to your baby’s solid food.

Add milk to oatmeal or rice cereal instead of water. This lets your baby get both solids and milk at the same time.

Add milk with fruit or vegetable purees instead of water.

Make breast milk or milk formula as an ice pop.

This helps to draw your curious baby to consume his milk by sucking the ice pop.

If your baby is new to holding and sucking on the ice pop, bear in mind that it can get messy.
